Richard G. “Dick” Holmes, 81, of New Philadelphia, Ohio died Saturday, February 17, 2007 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover following a brief illness.
Born August 9, 1925 in Dover, he was the son of the late Gordon and Sarah Stahl Holmes.
Dick was a salesman for the former Fishel Tire Company in Dover for many years. He also previously worked at the former Dover Foods and Shenango PennMold.
He was a member of the First Moravian Church in Dover. He was also a life member of the Dover Elks Lodge, Dover VFW, Dover Moose Lodge, and was a drummer in the former Dover American Legion Drum & Bugle Corp. He was a 1943 graduate of Dover High School. He enjoyed music and dancing.
Dick was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Stevens Holmes. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Barb Dietrich, grandson, Steven Allen Dietrich, a brother, Tom Holmes, and a great granddaughter, Justice Apple Rennicker.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Roberts Rennicker Holmes with whom he would have celebrated fifteen years of marriage on August 22; four children, Rick (Peggy) Holmes of Dover, Bob Holmes of Strasburg, Bob (Melanie) Rennicker of Dover and Donna (John) Beitzel of New Philadelphia; ten grandchildren, Sara Holmes, Kimber and Hannah Holmes, Brian Rennicker, Kim (Chip) Anderson, Vicki (Darren) Raber, Megan (Aaron) Shanklin, David Rennicker, Jenn (Steve) Kristoff, and Chris Beitzel. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren and two soon to be expected great grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Dick�(TM)s life will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at 2pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover with Pastor Allen Bergmann officiating. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Private interment will be held in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens.
