Richard I. Schlimm, 66, of Strasburg, Ohio and formerly of Sandyville and East Sparta died Christmas Day, 2004 in Union Hospital following an extended illness.
He was an employee of the Timken Company in Canton until illness forced his retirement. He had also previously worked for Sparta Ceramic Tile Co. in East Sparta.
Born March 1, 1938 in East Sparta, he was the son of the late George and Thelma Hill Schlimm.
He loved serving the Lord and was a member of the Bolivar Wesleyan Church where he was active in the Sunday School Class and Best Years Fellowship. He was a 1957 graduate of Sandyville High School. He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife, Martha “Ellen” Scott Adams Schlimm with whom he celebrated 37 years of marriage on May 12.
He is also survived by one daughter, Barbara Lewis of Las Vegas, Nevada and one son, Brian Schlimm of Bolivar; three stepsons, Gary (Debbie) Adams of Olympia, Washington, Larry Adams of Hilliard, Ohio and Dr. David (Becky) Adams of Jeffersonville, Indiana; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Betty (David) Keeney and Carol (Norm) Watson both of East Sparta and Mary (David) Winn of Canton; 2 brothers Gene (Norma) Schlimm of East Sparta and Jack Schlimm of Sandyville and his cat, Gibby.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Schlimm and a stepdaughter, Lila Kay Adams.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 11 am in the Bolivar Wesleyan Church with Dr. Steve Gerig, Dr. David Adams, and Peter A. Hall officiating. At his request, cremation will follow services and interment will be held at a later date in the Greenlawn Cemetery at Sandyville. Friends can call at the church on Wednesday from 6-8 pm.
