Richard L. Barnhouse, 84, of Strasburg died on Monday, December 17, 2018 in the Country Club Retirement Center.
Born August 23, 1934 in Lamartine, Ohio he was a son of the late Charles and Lona Arbogast Barnhouse. Dick was also preceded in death by his wife, Christie Barnhouse on May 29, 2011, and a sister, Vivian Barnhouse.
Dick retired in 1992 from the Timken Company after 35 years of service. He was an active member of the First Moravian Church in Dover, and served as Mayor of Leesville and Strasburg. Dick was also a member of the Strasburg Lions Club, Cypress Lodge #604 F&AM in Strasburg, Scottish Rite in Canton and the Eastern Star in Strasburg. Dick and Christie enjoyed collecting antique cars, and owned a 1942 Dodge and a 1961 Chrysler New Port convertible; he was also a member of the National Chrysler Products Club, Walter P. Chrysler Club, and Veteran Motor Car Club of America. Dick proudly served his country with the Army National Guard.
He is survived by his children, Fred Barnhouse of New Philadelphia, James (Sherry) Barnhouse of Dover, Suzanne (Bill) Patterson of Mineral City; brother, Paul (Jane) Barnhouse of Louisville, Ohio; grandchildren, Derek Patterson, Danielle Patterson, Garrett Patterson; and one great granddaughter, Hailey Patterson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 21 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor John Wallace officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-7 pm.
