Rick N. Carnahan, 60, a well-known area Bass fisherman, died suddenly Thursday, December 1, 2005.
He retired from AK Steel, the former Reeves Steel Mill, after 34 years. When he retired he was the Roller on the Templer Mill and had supervised a crew of six.
Born March 7, 1945 in Dover he was a son of Lois Goettge Carnahan of Dover and the late Neil Carnahan.
He was a 1936 graduate of Dover High School.
Known throughout the area as an accomplished Bass fisherman, Rick fished for pleasure as well as for sport. He enjoyed the serenity of his hobby, and the challenge of participating in numerous fishing tournaments. He furthered his interest in Bass fishing by becoming a member of several clubs. Being a person who paid close attention to details, he also found a great satisfaction in working in his flower gardens and yard. His devotion was best expressed by the tender loving care he offered his wife throughout the years.
In addition to his mother, Lois, Rick is survived by his wife, Jean Renner Carnahan, with whom he celebrated 35 years of marriage on September 14, 2005.
He is also survived by two sons, Jeffrey Carnahan of Dover and Steven McGinley of Canton; two daughters, Julie (Barry) Murtaugh of Strasburg and Beth (Richard) Hackerd of Brecksville; two brothers, Alan Carnahan of Dover and Greg Carnahan of Stillwater and seven grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Carnahan and a brother, Mackey Carnahan.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 5, 2005 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Rev. Carol Clements officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. Following the burial a funeral dinner will be held at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
