Robert A. "Bob" Getchey

Robert Andrew Getchey (Bob), 77 of Dover passed away peacefully March 5th at the Hospice Truman House with his wife by his side. He was born March 1, 1943, in Newcomerstown, Ohio. Bob battled prostate cancer for the last six years.

Bob graduated from Stone Creek High School in 1961. He worked as a truck driver early on and then as a mine foreman. Bob returned to driving truck and in 1989 he and his wife became Owner/Operators of R&M Getchey Trucking and traveled 48 of the continental United States. Due to health issues, Bob then went to work for Holmes By-Products where he worked for the next 30 years on the maintenance of the plant.

Bob loved his yearly trips to Canada to visit family, friends and to spend hours on Rugby Lake fishing. His one dream was to travel to Alaska, which he did in 2010 and again in 2016.

Bob is survived by his wife Margaret A. Getchey whom he married Dec. 31, 1986. He also leaves behind his children, Robert A. Getchey of Minnesota, Rebecca A. (Mark) Randall of Kelona, BC., Randy A. Getchey of Florida, and Rodney A. Getchey of Ohio. Stepchildren that he treated as his own Tom D. (Heather) Rothacher of Dundee, Angie (Jason) Bosler of Deersville and Stacy (Josh) Robinson of Dundee. He had 28 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Patricia (Jarett) Moss and Irene (Paul) Felgenhauer, both of Sherrodsville; a niece and 7 nephews. He also leaves his partner in crime to carry on, his grandson Austin Albaugh. He will also be missed by many friends and his cat Priss.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Irene Barr Getchey; father, Frank Andrew Getchey, 3 brothers (Lawrence Heid, Forrest Heid, and Clarence Ripple), a stepdaughter (Kristy Dawn Rothacher), and two grandchildren (Zander C. Robinson and Destiny Lee Stull).

Calling hours will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Terry Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. A meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center following the service of committal.
