Robert A. “Bob” Gaston, 59, of Dennison died Friday, June 29, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family following an extended illness.
Born November 17, 1947 in Clarksburg West Virginia he was a son of the late Alfred R. Gaston and Virginia Williams Gaston Church of Farmington Hills, Michigan.
He retired from Airborne Express and had also been a mechanic and Truck Driver for many years.
Bob was very patriotic and he loved his country. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War in the Headquarters Battalion in Phubai, Vietnam, and was involved in opposing the Tet Offensive. He received the President�(TM)s Unit Citation and Army Commendation Medal. Bob loved the outdoors especially fishing, hunting and camping, and he always enjoyed falling asleep to thunderstorms. He was very talented at working with his hands, and was always busy doing something in his workshop usually woodcarving something for his family. Bob also loved his tattoos and amateur radio, but to him, nothing meant “freedom” more than riding his “Fat Boy” Harley Davidson through the countryside.
Bob is going to be sadly missed by his loving wife and companion of many years, Pamela Barker Gaston whom he married on January 6, 2006. He also leaves nine children, James, Jesse and Jenna of Dennison; Elizabeth and Kate of Detroit, Michigan; Julia, Robyn, Jennifer and Robert II of Akron; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia (John) Vail of Nottingham, Pennsylvania and Alfreda Pentry of Oklahoma; brother, Randall (Marion) Gaston of Harrisville, West Virginia and a large extended family.
He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Dow and Opal Husk Gaston and Otis and Lona Pulliam Williams who were all from West Virginia; sister, Linda M. Gaston Atkins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2007 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at New Philadelphia. Interment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio at 1:00 pm. Friends can call at the funeral home on Friday from 9 to 11 am.
