Robert B. "Bob" Shetler, 83, of Strasburg died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Union Hospital following an extended illness.
Born February 2, 1932 in Strasburg he was a son of the late George and Sabina Goudy Shetler. Bob was also preceded in death by a grandson, Luke Shetler; brother, George Shetler; sister, Dorothy McCulley and an infant sister.
Bob was well known for owning the Certified Gas Station in town and had also been a truck driver for Von Kaenel Trucking. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Strasburg where he served on church council and was also a long time, and dedicated member of the Strasburg Fire Department having attained the rank of Lieutenant after his 41 years of service. Bob loved his family, especially going to his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and he also enjoyed spending time at Willandale Golf Club. The last few years, he was known for traveling the neighborhood on his scooter. Bob also proudly served his country with the US Army.
A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Bob will be sadly missed by his wife of 61 years, Beverly Lyons Shetler, whom he married on December 12, 1954; children, Debbie (John) Emig, Susie (Jeff) Willis, Ted (Mary Jane) Shetler, Tom (Christine) Shetler and two of his grandchildren that he raised as his own children, Tiffiny (Matt) Tharp and Jeremy (Jenni) Shetler; grandchildren, Lindsay (Damian) Thomas, Chase Willis, Taylor, Cadi and Cody Shetler, Clay (Sara), Logan, Gabe and Ankita Shetler; great grandchildren, AJ and Gracie Tharp, Kyler Shetler, Riley, Lydia and Alayna Thomas; special nieces, Janet (Bob) Schenk, Joan Smith; brother in law, Bill and his children, Brandon and Andrea.
A service celebrating Bob's life will be held on Wednesday, February 3 at 11:00 am in the First Lutheran Church at Strasburg with Pastor Karen Biggerstaff officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Tuesday from 4-8 pm.
