Robert "Bob" O. Owen

Robert O. "Bob" Owen, 84, of Strasburg passed into the arms of his Master and Maker on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015 surrounded by the love of his family.

Born Dec. 8, 1930 in Dover, he was the son of the late Maurice and Dora (Lauer) Owen. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joan (Sickafoose) Owen on Jan. 7, 1997 and an infant sister.

Bob was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church. After graduating in 1948 from Middle Branch High School, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1991 from Empire Reeves at Dover following 30 years of service. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He had many interests that included racing stock cars at the Canton Motor Speedway, racing motorcycles in Mansfield, and enjoying car shows and restoring cars. He was an avid sports fan including Nascar racing. He was a longtime resident at Atwood Lake and enjoyed spending time on the water. He also enjoyed wintering in Winter Haven, Florida.

He will be sadly missed by his family that included his wife of nearly 17 years, Gail (Williams) Owen who he married on Nov. 22, 1998; two sons, Terry (Brenda) Owen of Atwood Lake, Mitchell (Shannon) Owen of Parkersburg, W.Va.; three stepchildren, Darren (Cheryl) Clum of Worthington, Darla (Rich) Reding and Jennifer Mahoney both of Strasburg; Sixteen grandchildren that include Greg (Megan), Samantha (Zachary Penso), Emily, Karah, Rachel, Jacob, Joan, Madalyn, and Michael Owen; Emma, Ian, Isabella Clum, Olivia Gardinsky, Wyatt Reding, Marissa and Sarah van de Vusse . He is also survived by a half sister, Blanche (Curtis) Tyree of Plymouth and a step sister, Mary Jo (Roy) Klick of Richville.

A funeral service celebrating Bob's life will be held Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 beginning at 1pm in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Jason Humble officiating. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be held at a later date in the Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Sunday from 2-4pm and at the church Monday from noon until the time of services.
