Robert D. “Bobby” Charnock, age 82, of Uhrichsville, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2017 following a brief illness.
Born May 31, 1935, in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late William and Thelma Bonifant Charnock and attended school in Wainwright and Tuscarawas. Bobby worked hard all of his life, beginning with farm labor as a young man. He was later employed by Republic Steel in Massillon from which he retired after more than 30 years of service. In his retirement, Bobby worked for Tollotti Pipe, Roswell.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Uhrichsville, the Dennison Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Uhrichsville Moose Lodge and a social member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bobby enjoyed fishing, working on automobiles and going to the races at Midvale. In his youth, managed baseball in Wainwright, and later was a Claymont Band Parent.
Bobby will be sadly missed by his children, Warren (Jone Bump) Schilling of Uhrichsville, Robert W. (Linda) Charnock of Pinesville, Louisiana, Rebecca (Jeff) Draher of Minerva, Julie (Dave) Kennedy of Dennison, Steve Charnock of Kent, Kathy (Harvey) Diem of Columbus; his grandchildren, Warren II (Randy) Schilling, Benn (Crystal) Schilling, Cassie (Tyler Hess) Schilling, Brooklynn, Quest and Zariah Kennedy, Robert W. Jr. (PJ), Richard (Chelsea) and Craig Charnock; his ten great-grandchildren; his sisters, Norma Cerana, Marjorie Lee and Debra (Mike) Thomas; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Earl and Grace Lahmers, Joyce and Nancy Charnock and Kathy Gleitsman; his nieces and nephews; and his dog, Prince.
Besides his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Beverly A. Gleitsman Charnock, on March 27, 2016; his sisters, Dorothy McCoy and Pat Lahmers; his brothers, William “Red,” James and Charles Charnock.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 26, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
