Robert E. "Bob" Blackford, 73, of Tuscarawas died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 in the University of Cincinnati Hospital following complications from a motorcycle accident.
Born April 9, 1939 in Dayton, Ohio he was a son of the late John and Margaret Manning Blackford. Bob is now dancing with his wife, Emma Lou Cottrell Blackford in heaven and they are finally together again. He was also preceded in death by his brothers; John, Bill, Russell and Eugene Blackford and sisters, Mary Unroe and Sue Wabler.
Bob retired from Rich Industries in Brightwood after more than 20 years of service as a supervisor.
"Mr. Mom"," Papaw", dad, grandfather, brother, neighbor and friend are all words used to describe this wonderful man. He was a loving and giving father of Jennifer Hursey and her children, Chantz Robert and Easton Mitchell Hursey of Tuscarawas; step father to John (Dawn) Davis of Uhrichsville, Kevin Davis of Dennison and their children, Clay, Logan, Rance and Jordan Davis and Chanell Giumenti; brother to, Pat Lawson of Dayton and Toby (Karen) Blackford of Indiana. Bob is also survived by his six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, especially his favorite riding buddy, Gary Blackford.
Bob was definitely a motorcycle enthusiast, who loved traveling throughout the United States, with his most recent trip of riding to the Florida Keys. He also enjoyed playing cards, visiting local casinos, playing golf and watching the NBA and his favorite player, Le Bron James. But the most important part of Bob's life was spending time with his daughter, Jennifer and grandchildren, his "little buddies", Chantz and Easton eating weekly dinners, having Rods Doughnuts for breakfast and attending their sporting events. Bob also had many great memories and stories about living in Southern California for 15 years.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held on Sunday, September 23, at 4:00 pm in the Newport United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville with Pastor Lyle Warren officiating. Friends are invited to call at the church one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Those wishing to express their fondest memories of Bob may do so by visiting the on line obituaries and flowers link on the funeral homes website.
