Robert E. Lewis

June 4, 1920 — July 18, 1999

Robert “Bob” E. Lewis, 79, formerly of 365 N. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg, died Sunday July 18, 1999 at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover.

He retired in 1974 after 34 years of service with Republic Steel at Canton.  He had worked as a stocker-foreman.

Born June 4, 1920 at Strasburg, he was a son of the late Edward and Alva Hartline Lewis.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church at Strasburg where he had served on church council.  He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Chas. Hofer post of the American Legion at Strasburg.  Bob was active in the Cystic Fibrosis chapter of Tuscarawas County and had also served as Mayor of Parral.

Bob is survived by his wife Verna (Hartline) Lewis, whom he wed on March 9, 1940.

Other suvivors include: three daughters, Jean “Anna” & Dwight Goodman of N. Canton, Linda Lewis of Columbus, Mary and Tom Thurn of Stow, a son, Howard & Patty Lewis of Strasburg, three sisters, Dorothy & Dennis Wright of Sugarcreek, Mary & Don Robart of Marshalville, Ohio, and Shirley & Chuck Garber of Strasburg, one brother Bill Lewis of Bolivar, five grandchildren & nine great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by: two sons, Dennis & Robert G. Lewis, a daughter, Barbara Lewis, two sisters, June Andreas & Marjorie Lewis and a brother Richard Lewis.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 22 at 11:00am in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover with Pastor Fred W. Grosse officiating.  Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg, where the Strasburg American Legion will perform military graveside services.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-9pm.
