Robert Webb “Bob” Goodwin, age 93, of New Philadelphia, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024, in his home.
Born October 29, 1930, in Brownton, WV, he was the son of the late Ottman and Ada Stoneking Goodwin. Bob graduated from Philippi, WV, High School, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Following his service time, he studied engineering at West Virginia University, and was employed by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company as well as the Motor Wheel Corporation. He retired in 1993.
Bob married Sally Zurcher Vaughn on January 23, 1987. The couple were faithful members of Otterbein United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, where Bob served as trustee, greeter and usher. Bob and Sally enjoyed going dancing, as well as traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. A few of Bob’s other favorite pastimes were gardening, woodworking, and working on anything mechanical. Bob also enjoyed people and conversation; he was a bit of a prankster and liked a good joke.
In addition to his wife, Sally, he is survived by his children, Lisa Goodwin of Newark, DE, Barbara (James) Zickgraf of Wilmington, DE, Kimberly (Hank) Hamilton of Acton, MA, and Robert (Yvonne) Goodwin of Chesapeake City, MD; his step-sons, Rick (Gail) Vaughn of Bolivar, Douglas (Tina) Vaughn of Canton, Christopher (Gail) Vaughn of New Philadelphia, and Robert (Tina) Vaughn of Newcomerstown (Bakersville); his grandchildren, Russell (Kate) Goodwin, Jamie Wilhelm, Travis and Curtis Hamilton, Kyle (Amber), Alyssa, and Andrew DVM (Alex Incarnato) Vaughn, Lisa (Dennis) Helterbran, Tracy Burkey, Tyler (Lindsey), Shannon, and Evan (Jocelyn) Zimmerman; his many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his numerous nieces and nephews; and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jean Johnson, Kay Zimmerman, Carol Hunt, Connie (Russell) Hartline, Judy (Don) Baker, Don (Susan) and Dwight (Kathy) Zurcher.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosalee Nonn, Nellie Cook, Dorothy Chenoweth, and Ann Posten.
Family and friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover, on Thursday, April 25, 6 - 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, April 26, at 11 a.m. Pastor Jon Long will officiate. Burial will follow in Jerusalem Church Cemetery near New Philadelphia, where military rites will be held. Following the committal, there will be a lunch in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
The family suggests that contributions in Bob’s memory be made to Ohio’s Hospice Foundation, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
