Robert J. Folger, 79, of Dover, Ohio died Sunday, November 13, 2005 at Union Hospital in Dover following a brief illness.
Bob retired in 1989 from the Purchasing Dept. of Warner & Swasey ( now Gradall) at New Philadelphia following 39 years of service.
Born March 14, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Roy C. and Mary Louise Delaney Folger.
Bob was a lifelong Episcopalian where he was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in New Philadelphia and was Senior Warden and served on the Diocese of Ohio Commission on Ministry. He was previously active in Kiwanis, Junior Achievement, and scouting program and was a 3rd degree mason. He was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge and the New Philadelphia VFW. He received his B.A. degree from Ohio State University in 1950. He was a US Army veteran during World War II where he served in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy. He loved history and reading and also enjoyed woodworking. Bob was a real “people person” and would walk across the street to speak to a stranger. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Margaret A. Theobald Folger with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage on July 24; He is also survived by two children, Peter Folger of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Katy (Chris) Kennedy of Hilliard, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Craig and Evan Folger, Rob, Colleen, Mike, Elaine Kennedy and Jim (Wendy) Kennedy and son, Sawyer and Jon (Jenny) Kennedy and children, Taylor and Thomas and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Loomis, Jane Coughlin, and Bette Marsh.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 18, 2005 at 11am in the Trinity Episcopal Church at New Philadelphia with Fr. Paul Johansen officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where the New Phila VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.
