Robert J. "Bob" Gintz, 75, a longtime New Philadelphia resident, died Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg.
He was born October 18, 1933 at Dennison, the son of the late Harold & Bessie Walton Gintz.
Bob worked as a mechanic for the former Cappel Motors at New Philadelphia. He was a proud member of United Mine Workers of America, Local #283, working hard in area coalmines until injury forced his retirement.
Perhaps best known as the family jokester with a great sense of humor, Bob had a variety of interests outside of making friends and loved ones laugh. He had an artistic side and enjoyed painting, especially nature and landscapes. He had a knack for "fixing things" and loved to tinker with clocks along with being skilled at building and repairing guns.
Bob also enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He was wild about his family " his wife of 47 years, Coreen Emhoff Gintz, who died on July 20, 2004, and his daughter, Loreen (George) Mercado of New Philadelphia. He loved spending time with them so much that when Loreen was in Girl Scouts and Coreen was serving as a leader, that he too became a Girl Scout leader just to be able to be with them on camping trips, working on crafts and being a part of everything that the girls were into.
Along with Loreen, other surviving family members include: a brother, James and sister, Carol; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren; close nieces Dot (Fisher) Trachsel of Dover, and Kay Monastra of Canton; along with several other nieces and nephews, including Don and Steve Gintz.
In addition to his parents, and wife, Coreen, a brother, Gerald, preceded Bob in death.
