Robert J. Mosley, 83, of Dover passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 1, 2018.
Born March 22, 1935 in Dover he was a son of the late Robert Earl and Carmella Butera Mosley. Bob was also preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Mosley on November 28, 2015; grandson, Robert “Ernie” Mosley; sister, Connie Bair and brother, Louie Mosley.
Bob proudly served his country with the United States Navy for nine years; he was stationed on an aircraft carrier, and was also a deep sea diver where he was in charge of ship demolition. Following the Navy, he became a California Highway Patrolman before moving back to the county where he was the Chief of Police for Strasburg, and later, a Tuscarawas County Sherriff’s Deputy. After a chance encounter, Bob was given the opportunity to become an Iron Worker. With his deep love of America, and the joy of being one to help “build America” Bob joined the Iron Workers Union Local #550 in Canton and was employed there for over 30 years. A man of strong convictions and faith, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, life member of the Dover VFW, where he served as Chaplain for over 10 years. In his spare time Bob enjoyed his family, flying his airplanes, playing cards with his friends at the club, golfing and making custom golf clubs with his little side business, R&M Custom Golf Clubs. He always enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians, beginning when he was a small boy with his father at the “old field”, and just this past week on TV.
A wonderful and loving father and grandfather, Bob will be sadly missed by his children, Michele (Dan) Walker of Dover, Rocky (Vivian) Mosley of Bolivar, Catherine (Bob) Gerber of New Philadelphia, and Susan (Paul) Rosenberry of Dover; eleven grandchildren, Danielle, Natalee and Carly Walker, Rachael, Michael, Samuel and Abbey Mosley, Hannah, Sara and Ellie Gerber and Max Rosenberry; three great-grandchildren, Aiden Walker, Charlie Jo and Maximus Mosley.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, June 7 at 10:30 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Interment will be at the St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Following the burial of ashes, a luncheon will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
