Robert D. Kandel

Robert D. Kandel, 87, of New Philadelphia passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 18, 2024.  

Born on July 20, 1936, in Holmes County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Dan and Alma (Sommers) Kandel. 

On March 26, 1957, he married Bonnie Feller, who preceded him in death on December 8, 2008.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn, and Durlan Kandel, along with his sister-in-law, Barb Kandel.  

He dedicated over 45 years at Alsco Anaconda in Gnadenhutten before his retirement.  

During his leisure time, Robert found solace in the simple joys of life. He had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to his garden. Additionally, he cherished moments spent deer hunting and fishing at Lake Erie. These activities brought him immense happiness and allowed him to connect with nature. 

Robert will be sadly missed by his daughters; Barb Bushong of New Philadelphia, and Karen (Jeff) Miller of Lewis Center; his grandchildren, Eve Miller, Nathanael Miller (Amy Elizabeth Uebel) of Alexandria, VA, Nick Miller of Columbus; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Clark, Isabella Immel, and Justin Immel; his brother, Clarence Kandel of New Philadelphia; his sisters, Minnie (Bruce) Riffle of Catalua, GA, and Nancy (Jim) Schneider of Dundee; his sister-in-law, Darlene Kandel of Stone Creek; along with eight nephews, and five nieces.    

A funeral service will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes & Crematory in Dover on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 12:00 pm with Pastor Jody Jones officiating.  Friends can call at the funeral home on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow next to Bonnie, at Dover Burial Park.  To sign an online guestbook for Robert, visit the obituary link on the funeral home's website.
