Robert Louis “Bob” Kline, Sr., 81, of Dover, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006 in the Park Village Health Care Center.
He was born June 9, 1925 at DeBois, PA, the son of the late Ira Sherman and Twila Mumford Kline.
For many years, Bob was a familiar face to area residents from his work in the automotive industry, most of those years spent working for Harry Humphries Ford. In 1979, he opened what was then called the Kline's Drive Thru in Dover.
Bob took great pride in his service to our country. He left Dover High School during his senior year to enlist in the Army during World War II. He earned two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars while in battle during the European Theater, and was among those who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He served in the 102nd Ozarks Infantry Division and the 407th Regiment D Company.
He was an avid golfer, and longtime member of the Union Country Club. Even as his health began to fail in later years, he enjoyed riding in golf carts and visiting with his golf buddies while they played.
On August 3, 1946, he wed the love of his life, the former Mary Leone, who survives.
Other survivors include: his son, Robert (Tracy) Kline, Jr., of Mayfield Village; four grandchildren, Emma & Anthony Kline of Mayfield Village, Nicole (Judah) Carey Smith of Las Cruces, NM, and Lisa (Derrick) Carey Bray of Cleveland; and a great granddaughter, Josephine “Josie” Bray.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by: his daughter, Martha Carey; a brother Sherman “Skip” Kline; and three sisters, Virginia Hooper, Ann Mari, and Ernestine Longstreth.
