Robert M. “Bob” Chapman, age 95, of Dover, died peacefully,
surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at the
Community Hospice Truman House, following a brief illness.
Born July 7, 1923, in Guysville, OH, he was a son of the late Pallie G. and
Faye Marshall Chapman. Bob was a 1941 graduate of Rome-Canaan
High School in Stewart, OH, and went on to earn his bachelors degree in
1946 from Ohio University, including credits from Yale University, which
he attended during his time in the United States Navy Officers
Candidate Program. Bob met his wife, the former Janet C. Polk, while
attending Ohio U. They were married on June 29, 1947, and lived in
East Cleveland until 1950, at which time they moved to Parkersburg,
and then on to Dover in 1960. Bob became licensed as a Certified
Public Accountant in 1950, was employed in Cleveland and Parkersburg
prior to joining in partnership with the late Robert “Fizz” Miller in the
Dover accounting firm of Miller & Miller Accountants, Inc. He retired
from practice in 1992.
Bob was a life member of Savannah Lodge No. 466 F. & A.M., Guysville;
an active member of the Elks Lodge in Dover and New Philadelphia;
Union Country Club; Dover Rotary Club; and Dover First United
Methodist Church. Bob also served on the board of directors and board
of trustees of the Tuscarawas County YMCA. He enjoyed golfing,
fishing, traveling and playing cards with his friends and family. In
recent years, he enjoyed spending time with friends and playing cards
at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.
Bob is survived by his three children, Gary (Elma) Chapman of
Middlebury, IN, Cindy (Wayne) Colvin of Bowling Green, OH, and Andy
(Susan) Chapman of Hampstead, NC; his grandchildren, Amy (Joe)
Mustafa of Fishers, IN, Laura (James) Rosenberg currently residing in
East Asia, Kimberly (Jon) Chleboun of Durham, NC, Scott (Lacey) Colvin
of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Mark Chapman of Charlotte, NC; his four
great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Vivian Duffy; his brother-in-law,
Ed Polk; and his nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet; his brother,
Joseph; and his sister, Janice.
Family and friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home &
Crematory, Dover, on Friday, November 9, 6 – 8 p.m., and on Saturday,
November 10, 12 – 1 p.m. A service celebrating Bob’s life will be held in
the funeral home on Saturday, at 1 p.m.; Pastor David St. Aubin will
officiate. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Those unable to attend
are encouraged to share memories and condolences with the Chapman

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Bob’s
memory be made to the Tuscarawas County YMCA, 600 Monroe St.,
