Robert M. Koons, 66, of Dover, died Saturday, July 6, 2002 at his home following a six month battle with cancer.
Born April 19, 1936 in Akron he was a son of the late William and Grace Lybarger Koons.
He graduated from Buchtel High School, Akron and Ohio Northern University where he met his college sweetheart, Jennifer Chappell whom he married in 1958. On his graduation from college with a degree in pharmacy Bob began a long career which ended when illness no longer permitted him to continue. Most recently he had started and built the business of Medi-Wise Pharmacy. Over the span of his career he had been the Director of Pharmacy at Barberton Citizens Hospital, University Hospitals in Cleveland and Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was an innovative entrepreneur meeting the need for the unit dose system for the elderly and delivering pharmacy services to nursing homes. Dedicated to his profession he served as President of Ohio Society of Hospital Pharmacy, as well as, being involved in other professional organizations which promoted the practice of pharmacy.
As a life long member of the United Methodist Church, he served the church with an active commitment. He could be found most Sunday mornings singing in the church choir. An avid golfer, he enjoyed playing on Sunday afternoon. Bob was a member of Dover Lions Club and had been President of the Williamsport, Maryland Lions Club. Bob�(TM)s life was blessed with four loving children and eight grandchildren; Kristine and Chad McCully and children Kyle and Molly of Rootstown; Cheryl and Gene Funk and son Griffith, deceased, of Montpelier, Vermont; Craig and Christina Koons and children Robbie, Aaron and Abigail of Williamsport, Maryland; and Valerie and Jon Pensinger and daughters Marley and Delaney of Greencastle, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by a sister Janet and David Innes of Forsythe Georgia.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at 10:30 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover. Dr. David Oliver, Pastor of Dover First United Methodist Church, will officiate at services to celebrated Bob�(TM)s life in this world and the next. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Akron. Friends can call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 pm.
