Robert E. Miller, 100, of Dover passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital. He was born on November 5, 1923, in New Philadelphia to the late Earl E. and Martha Jarvis Miller. Robert was also preceded in death by his wife, Janice June Miller in 1991; son, Charles Miller; and brothers, Richard, Paul and Earl C. "Dutch" Miller.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1941, he pursued his passion for agriculture at the Ohio State University, where he earned a degree in the field. Armed with this knowledge, Robert embarked on a journey as the owner and operator of Golden Bell Dairy in Newcomerstown. Though he enjoyed this venture for several years, he eventually transitioned into a successful career as an agent for Equitable Life and dedicated himself to serving others for an astounding four decades.
Throughout his long and fulfilling life, Robert was known for being active and full of life. Even at the age of 100, he continued to live independently, a testament to his spirit and zest for life. Perhaps one of Robert's most cherished hobbies was gardening. Well into his late 90s, he tirelessly tended to his own garden and derived immense joy from nurturing its growth. On top of that, Robert selflessly volunteered with Meals on Wheels—an organization that brought him fulfillment as he spread kindness to those in need. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, and was also a member of the Tuscarawas Lodge #59 F & AM in Dover, where he recently received his 75 year service pin.
Robert is survived by his beloved daughters, Janice Parish of Akron and Mary (Steve) Boren of Dayton; daughter-in-law, Marlene Miller of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Corina, Heidi, Jason, and Andrea, were a constant source of joy in his life. Furthermore, he was blessed with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who brought him immeasurable happiness.
A service celebrating Robert's life will be held on Thursday, December 28th starting at 1:30 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Brad Call officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. The family will be greeting friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church at 201 W High Ave, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
