Robert O. German, 83, of Dover died Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Aultman Hospital following complications from heart surgery.
Robert retired in 1989 as the owner and operator of Raintree Cleaning Center in New Philadelphia with 22 years of service. Prior to Raintree, he had worked with his family at Copperhead Coal Co. for many years.
Born June 2, 1921 in Sherrodsville he was a son of the late Otis and Ruth Johnston German
He was a member of St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover and was a Navy veteran of WW II having served with the Seabee�(TM)s in Guam and the Solomon Islands. Robert loved spending time with his family and traveling whenever possible.
Robert is survived by his wife, Shirley German, with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage on May 31, 2004.
He is also survived by two daughters, Ann Haley of Dover and Peggy (Duane) Hershberger of Dover; sister, Beatrice (Leland) McFarren of North Canton; brother, Richard (Winnie) German of Massillon; special friend, Mike Gintz of Mineral City; four grandchildren, Rick and Jacklyn Haley, Lance and Ryan Hershberger; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles German.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at New Philadelphia (246 East High Ave. New Philadelphia) with Rev. Steve Daniels officiating. Cremation will follow the service, with interment at East Lawn Cemetery in Sugarcreek. Friends can call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in New Philadelphia on Monday (today) from 6-8 pm.
