Robert R. "Bob" Everhart, 77, of New Philadelphia, Ohio died Saturday morning, April 21, 2012 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover following an extended illness.
Bob was an employee of the former McKnight Trucks in New Philadelphia and Raber Lumber Company. He and Arvada also operated Arvada's Gift Chalet in Berlin. He also served as a former Deputy Sheriff.
Born June 12, 1934 on his grandfather's farm in Oldtown Valley, he was the son of the late Bruce Everhart and Ella Mae (Kinsey) Everhart.
Bob was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg. He proudly served his country in the US Army where he was a guard at the Underground Pentagon. Bob was mechanically inclined and will be remembered for his ability to fix anything. He was also an avid Nascar fan and was involved in building stock cars that raced in the ARCA Circuit including the Daytona 500. He also built and raced Go Karts. In his earlier years, Bob also enjoyed working and training horses.
He will be sadly missed by Arvada (Evans) Everhart of the home with whom he had been married for 36 years; three children Robert (Sue) Everhart Jr. of New Philadelphia, Brenda (David) Little of Dover and Pam (Jan) Byer of Canal Winchester; three stepchildren Jennifer (Paul) Fritchman of Smyrna, Georgia, Cheryl (Chris) DeLaCruz of Dover and Jerry (Nan) VonAllman of New Philadelphia. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, two great grandchildren and his special great granddaughter, Lily Lyons of Dover; two sisters, Marge (Jerry) Graham and Alice (Jim) Whitman both of New Philadelphia.
Bob's life will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 11am in the St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg with Rev. Gary Friend officiating with a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. Cremation will follow the services and he will privately be laid to rest in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5-8pm at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover.
