Robert V. Tolotti

October 3, 1920 — April 18, 2004

Robert V. Tolotti, 83, of Dover, died peacefully Sunday, April 18, 2004 in the Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.

In 1980 Robert retired from Dover High School where he had been an Industrial Arts teacher for many years. Prior to his coming to Dover, he had held the same position at Fairless High School.

He was also well known in the area for his years of careful and patient training as a Drivers Education instructor.

Born October 3, 1920 in “a Cabbage Patch” in Goshen Township, Robert was the son of the late Dominic and Rose Valentine Tolotti.

Robert was a devoted member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover. He was past president of the Order of St. Francis, and took pride in being a lector for worship. His last reading as lector had special meaning as it was at his nephew(TM)s wedding in Florida.

In 1937 he graduated from the former St. Joseph High School. It was then off to the service where Robert honorably served his country during World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps. Following his return from active duty, he enrolled at Bowling Green State University. He graduated from BG in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and would later go on to obtain his Master(TM)s degree from the Ohio State University.

He was also a green thumb. Over the years, Robert spent many hours tending to his vegetable gardens. He also took pride in his flowers and the entire manicured appearance of his home and landscape.

As one might think, being a lifelong Industrial Arts teacher, Robert also had a passion for woodworking.

Robert was blessed with over 58 years of marriage to his wife, the former Margaret C. Tornabene, who survives.

Other survivors include: four children, Judy (Biswa) Ganguly of Beavercreek, Ohio, Robert Jay (Linda) Tolotti of Wadsworth, Joan (Chad) Marsh of Dover and Jeanne (Karl) Kirkpatrick of Upper Arlington, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters, June (Jim) Poyer of Florida and Pauline (Dale) Wherley of Dover; a brother, Carl (Marsha) Tolotti of Florida, and dear friends of 52 years, Howard “Bud” and Joanie Denison of Dover.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by infant twin sons, Joseph and Jeffrey Tolotti.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Dover. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. with Christian Wake services being held at 8:00 p.m.

Those unable to attend or wishing to share a fond memory may sign the online register book for Robert by visiting the “obituaries” link on the funeral home(TM)s website.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Church, 613, N. Tuscarawas Ave., Dover.
