Robert W. Baer, 86, a lifelong resident of Dover died Monday, May 17, 2010 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a brief illness.
Bob was a retired Superintendent of Red Malcuit Incorporated where he worked for over fifty years.
Born September 3, 1923 in Dover, he was the son of the late Walter and Anna (Eisinger) Baer. Bob was also preceded in death by his son, Tom Baer and sister, Margaret Martin.
He was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks and Lodge and was previously active in the former Dover Elks. He was also a member of the Pine Hill Hunting Club for over fifty years and was Life Member of the Operating Engineers Local #18. He was previously a member of the Union Country Club where he could often be found golfing with his friends. Bob also enjoyed attending his great grandchildren's sporting events. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his witty sense of humor.
A 1941 graduate of Strasburg High School, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was stationed in Japan having served under Gen. MacArthur.
Bob is survived by his wife Carol (Emig) Baer with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage on March 6; a daughter and son in law Cindy (husband, Dave) Weber of Dover; five grandchildren Andrew (Susan) Weber of Rootstown, Renee (Winston) Warr of Juneau, Alaska, Sheri (Jeff) Laughlin of Dover, Jonathon Baer and Hannah Baer both of Dover; six great grandchildren, Austin and Brooke Laughlin, Michael, Matthew, and Mitchell Weber, and Athena Warr.
Pastor Chad Stutzman will officiate funeral services celebrating Bob's life on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover where military honors will be conducted by the Dover VFW. A reception will follow the service at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8pm. Cremation will follow the services and inurnment will be held at a later date in the Dover Burial Park.
