Rocco J. Polce, 89, formerly of Phoenix Drive, Dover, Ohio died Saturday, February 2, 2008 in the Heartland of Perrysburg, Ohio.
Born February 7, 1918 at Broad Street in Dover, he was the son of the late John and Donata (Contini) Polce.
Rocco retired in 1985 from the City of Dover Electric Field Division where he worked for 35 years.
He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dover. He graduated from Dover High School in 1937 and attended Muskingum College. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was stationed in Scotland, England, Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He was a life member of the Dover VFW. He enjoyed all sports especially football. He was also an avid walker and loved making wine. Rocco and his wife, Ruth will always be remembered for their generosity and caring for others.
In addition to his parents, Rocco was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ruth A. (Costa) Polce with whom he was married 55 years until her passing on December 3, 2003. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Tillie, George, and John (Junior) Polce and three sisters, Frances Fioretto, Jenny Davis, and Norma Caracillo.
Rocco is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Walters and her companion, Jim Sickles of Perrysburg; two grandsons, Ryan Walters and his companion, Jennifer Hackworth of Arlington, Ohio and Patrick Walters of Columbus; Jim's children, Jennifer (J.P.) VanDyke and son, Austin of Nashville, Tennessee and Christine (Kenny) Boyer and daughter, Sophia of Lakewood, Ohio; sisters in law, Jean Polce of Dover, Carolyn "Caulie" Angelo of Dennison, and Lorena Costa of Uhrichsville along with many nieces and nephews and special friends Sandy and Michael Rubino of Dover.
A Rite of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 10am in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. A reception will follow at St. Joseph's Family Life Center. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday from 5-8pm where Christian Wake Services will be held at 7:45pm.
