Rodney L. Bayer, 73, of Strasburg died Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Aultman Hospital following an extended illness.
Born September 8, 1944 in Massillon, he was a son of the late Maurice Bayer and Miriam “Glee” Freshour Bayer. Rodney was also preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Bayer.
He was a retired Truck Driver having worked for many different companies throughout his career, and was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Rodney was a member of the First Moravian Church in Dover where he was involved with the Wednesday night men’s Bible study. He was a founding member of the Strasburg Pullers Association and served as a Director for many years. Rodney loved cars and was a member of the Custom Kemps Car Club and enjoyed going to car shows with his beloved 1962 Ford Galaxy 500.
Rodney will be sadly missed by his wife of 28 years, Linda Wassem Bayer, whom he married on October 21, 1989; son, Robert W. Bayer of Dover; siblings, Barb Limbacher of Strasburg, Ronald Bayer of Canton, Kenneth (Dayna) Bayer of Dover; many nieces and nephews; great niece and nephew, Cloey and Garrett, and his favorite dog, Steel.
A service celebrating Rodney’s life will be held on Friday, December 15 at 3:00 pm in the First Moravian Church at Dover with Pastor John Wallace officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover is handling arrangements.
