Rose C. Alfonso, 93, of Temecula, California and formerly of New Philadelphia died Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Friends Home Care in Temecula.
Born August 5, 1914 in New Philadelphia she was a daughter of the late Natale and Rosalia Calabrese Tornabene. Her husband, Charles Alfonso who died on April 2, 1999; two brothers, Joseph and Sam Tornabene and a sister, Mary Zifer, also preceded Rose in death.
She was a life member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. Rose was a wonderful cook, who took great pride in preparing meals for her family using recipes that had been handed down for generations. She made fabulous hand made pasta. She also used her cooking skills in the kitchen of Mary Zifer's Pizza, where she always enjoyed helping her sister.
A loving mother and grandmother, Rose is survived by her daughter, Wilma (Bill) Swaldo of New Philadelphia; son, Dave (Rose) Alfonso of Temecula, California; brother, Louis (Vera) Tornabene of New Philadelphia; sister, Lillian Hudson of Arvada, Colorado; four grandchildren; Brian Swaldo, Beth Green, Cathy Koumelis and Julie Alfonso; seven great grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 9:30 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover on Saturday from 8:15 to 9:15 am.
