Rosemary A. Smith, 71, of 435 Hummel Valley Rd. S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio died Thursday, April 5, 2001 in her home following an extended illness.
Rosemary was a Registered Nurse having retired from the Tuscarawas County Health Dept. following eighteen years of service. Following retirement, she worked for the South Broadway Nursing Home in New Philadelphia. She also had previously been a nurse at Union Hospital.
Born November 13, 1929 in Minerva, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Gladys Norris Burford.
She was a 1948 graduate of Malvern High School and a 1951 graduate of the Massillon City Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a volunteer and board member of the Tuscarawas County Easter Seals, Past President of PERS, and a volunteer for Birthright of Tuscarawas County. She was a member of the First Church of the Brethren in New Philadelphia and active in the Womens Fellowship. She loved her family and enjoyed vacationing and fishing.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Smith with whom she celebrated fifty years of marriage on March 20.
Three daughters Gayle (David) Mack, Christine (Steve) Beitzel, and Diane (Dick) West all of New Philadelphia and a son, James (Lisa) Smith of Columbus
Eight grandchildren Nathan, Steven Jr., Heather, and Kristin Beitzel; Chad, Joe, and Katie West; and Erin Smith
Two Brothers Joe (June) Burford of Ivy, Virginia and Robert (Carol) Burford of Howell, Michigan and a sister, Inez Murray of New Philadelphia along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Carmaleita Pietro and Audrey Burford and one brother, David Burford.
Funeral Services will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Pastor William Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-5 pm.
