Russell D. Gerber

Russell D. Gerber, 83, of Strasburg died Saturday, August 2, 2014 in his home following a brief illness.

Born January 13, 1931 in Canton he was a son of the late Dwight and Audrey Miller Gerber. He was also preceded in death by three infant children, Earl Dwight, Jerry Lee and David Allen Gerber; brother, Raymond Gerber; sister in law, Nancy Swonger; brother in law, Jerry Tidrick; father and mother in law, Earl (Frances) Steiner and his dog, Molly.

Russell was still employed at Superior Tank and Trailer in Beach City after 12 years of service and had also been employed at Ravens and Leader Trailer throughout the years. He was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church, Strasburg American Legion and the New Philadelphia VFW. Russell enjoyed watching the birds around his home, rooting for his Strasburg Tigers and watching his grandchildren in their sporting events. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army.

A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Russell will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Carol Steiner Gerber whom he married on July 3, 1960; children, Kim Andrews of Bolivar and Matt (Tiffany) Gerber of Strasburg; sisters, Shirley Johns of California, Barbara (Dean) Roush of Columbus and Joan (Denny) Kroeckel of Arizona; grandchildren, Olivia and Madison Andrews, Morgan and Jordan Gerber and his dog, Hope.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 8 at 11:00 am in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Jason Humble officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg where the Strasburg American Legion will conduct military graveside services. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Thursday from 5-8 pm.
