Russell E. Burky, 88, of Mineral City and a 50 year resident of the New Cumberland area died Thursday, July 4, 2002 following injuries received in an accident at his home.
He was a retired employee of the former Fairfield Brick Company in Zoarville and also enjoyed farming.
Born November 14, 1913 in Shanesville, Ohio, he was the son of the late August C. and Laura Fleishman Burky.
Russell was a longtime member of the New Cumberland Methodist Church where he was recently honored for being a member for over 50 years. He was a graduate of Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed his fruit tree orchard, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Mutschelknaus Burky who died July 28, 1997.
He is survived by three sons Lysle D. Burky and his fiancée Marjorie Copen of Mineral City; Glenn A. (Iva C.) Burky of New Philadelphia; and Terry L. (Karen E.) Burky of Mineral City
Nine grandchildren Deborah (James) Shear, Glenn (Naomi) Burky Jr., Melissa (Bret) Stutler, Marsha (Rajiv) Raja, Mischelle Troyer, Michael (Gretchen) Burky, Michael (Michelle) Yockey, Debra Bueno, and Jeffrey Aul.
Thirteen great grandchildren Tiffany, Ashley, Russell, and Jessy Shear; Diana, Amber, and Jeremy Burky; Garret Stutler, Chase and Tyler Burky; A.J. Troyer, Sara and Jeff Aul Jr.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, July 7, 2002 at 2 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Harry Milligan officiating. Interment will be in the New Cumberland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 6-8 pm and Sunday from 1 to 2 pm.
