Russell O. Beamish, Jr.

Russell O. Beamish, Jr., 79, of Somerdale died January 10, 2005 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends after a two-year battle with cancer.

Born May 8, 1925 in Midland, Michigan he was a son of the late Russell O. Beamish, Sr. and F.E. Bowen Beamish.

He entered the Navy on September 3, 1943 and was honorably discharged on April 14, 1946. He worked at Dow Chemical for a short time then relocated to Ohio, where on January 4, 1958 he married Elmo Nicholas, who survives.

He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in New Philadelphia. Russ was an outdoorsman who enjoyed working on his farm, and he never missed a deer hunting season, or any fishing trip, especially to Lake Erie. He loved gardening and made many people happy with his produce. Russ also enjoyed the woods and sold firewood to campers as a hobby.

He retired from Summitville Tile after 23 years in their mining division as a heavy equipment operator.

Russ will be greatly missed by his wife and son, Russell N. (Sharon) Beamish of Sherrodsville; three grandchildren, Cassidy, Caitlyn and Keith Beamish all of Somerdale; brother, George (Doris) Beamish of Naples, Florida; four sisters, Emma (Junior) Shutt of Rosebush, Michigan, Lucille Ross of Midland, Michigan, Nina Johnson of Flint, Michigan and Darlene (Darrell) Beach of Culver, Indiana.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Shoup and Roselyn Goodall; brother, Robert Beamish.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with David Vierheller officiating. Interment will be at New Cumberland Cemetery. Following the burial a reception will be held at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County or to the charity of ones choice.
