Ruth A. Wigert

Ruth A Wigert, 93, a longtime Dover resident who resided in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover for the past four years, died peacefully Thursday, February 26, 2008.

Born August 1, 1915 at New Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Ennis and Emma Blaser Bartholomew.

Ruth took great pride in her home and worked very hard to make sure that the appearance was kept up. She had a caring heart, loved being around people, and always seemed happiest when she was able to do something for others.

She was always on the go and was seemingly busy doing something fun all of the time! She stayed active by taking walks, baking cookies, and taking part in Twinges and Hinges at the YMCA. She had a talent for quilting and embroidery. Ruth was also fond of Bingo, board games and liked to complete puzzles.

The love of her life, Milton C. "Stretch" Wigert, died June 17, 1999. That year the couple would have celebrated 65 years in marriage, and family members have remarked that this year would have been the milestone 75th anniversary.

Surviving family members include: a son, Marvin Wigert of Wellington; daughter Tonya (Dave) DeTorio, II of Dover; two grandchildren, Kristina Knotts and Josh Jennings; and a nephew, Roy George of Canton.

Along with her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by: four sisters, Thelma Kretzinger, Florence Long, Irene Mason, and Verna George.

The Rev. Dr. William C Haggis will join Rev. Jim Lewis in officiating a ceremony that celebrates Ruth's life on Tuesday, March 3, at 2:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Burial will follow in New Philadelphia's Evergreen Burial Park. Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from noon until time of services at 2:00 p.m.

The family suggests that memorial gifts be made in Ruth's name to the "Activity Fund" at Hennis Care Centre, 1720 Cross St., Dover.
