Ruth E. Hamm, 93, of Wooster died on Saturday, August 1, 2009 in Smithville-Western Care Center in Wooster, Ohio surrounded by her children.
Ruth was born in Glenmont, Ohio on August 19, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence I. “Bud” and Jeannette “Nettie” Burkey Klingler. She was raised in Glenmont and graduated from Glenmont High School.
Shortly after graduation, she married the love of her
life, Lloyd C. Hamm in Millersburg, Ohio. Lloyd owned the former Hamm Plastering Company in Dover. Ruth
and Lloyd built a cottage in the Atwood Lake Glen�(TM)s in 1953, where they created many memories with their family. Lloyd preceded her in death on April 15, 1965. Shortly after Lloyd died, she began working at Sparta Ceramic Tile, where she worked for 15 years.
Ruth was a homemaker and great housekeeper. She loved
picking berries and made many delicious pies to share with her family. She enjoyed spending time in the kitchen.
She was a well-spirited woman who enjoyed dancing and
taking care of her family. She was a member of St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover, Women of the Moose in Dover, and was the former president of the Child Conservation League (CCL). She was actively involved in the Senior Center and the Dover High School Band Boosters.
She is survived by her two sons: Larry (Sue) Hamm of
Winterhaven, Florida, and Steve (Diane) Hamm of Akron, Ohio; her daughter, Carol Sue (Pete) Allenbach of Mansfield, Ohio; her brother, Bernard W. (Mary) Klingler of Beach City; her eight grandchildren, Denise (Jerry) Fetters, Kristy Hamm, Gordon (Ducia) Hamm, Brad (Doris) Hamm, Keith (Victoria) Hamm, Lloyd (Alexa) Hamm, Mike (Danielle) Allenbach, and Michele (Derek) Smith; 20
great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Nell Klingler of Marion, Ohio and Katherine Klingler of New Philadelphia, as well as her dancing friend, Randall Maurer of Dover.
In addition to her parents and Lloyd, she is preceded in death by an infant daughter and two brothers, Dr. Raymond Klingler and Theodore Klingler.
A celebration of Ruth�(TM)s life will take place at the
Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 11:00 am with Pastor Bill Eshelman from the Rittman Christian Church officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Millersburg at 2:00 pm. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday
from 9:00-11:00 am.
