Ruth Evelyn Mullet, a homemaker, beautician and avid gardener, died January 5, 2014 at age 93.
Born November 20, 1920 to Emma (Agler) and Homer Muskopf, she grew up on a farm and attended a one-room schoolhouse before graduating from Beach City High School and earning her cosmetology license from Canton Academy of Beauty Culture. In her early 20's, Ruth owned and managed her own salon in North Brewster while her future husband, C. Sumner Mullet, served in the Army during World War II. The couple married in 1944 when he returned to the U.S., and she regularly traveled to the Washington, D.C. area where he was stationed.
After the war, the Mullets built their home down the road from her parents. Ruth sold her salon to focus on her growing family, but some of her loyal clients went to her house for appointments. When her children were older, she worked at Fairless High School for nine years.
A longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Strasburg, she was active with the Women's Fellowship and other groups. Ruth was also an active member in the Beach City Grange, Beach City American Legion Auxiliary, and Beach City Homemakers. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, cooking, baking, and giving her creations to family and friends. Ruth shared her husband's love of the outdoors and gardening, whether she was tending her flowers or harvesting produce from the garden and orchard. She cherished spending time with her granddaughters and always encouraged their educational, artistic, and professional pursuits. Hosting extended family gatherings and reunions was a great joy to her, and for the past few years she enjoyed making new friends at New Dawn Retirement Center in Dover.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband of nearly 64 years, Sumner Mullet, on April 8, 2008, and son-in-law Johnny White. She is survived by her children Cynthia White of Olive Branch, Miss., Rebecca (George) Reymond of Dover, and Mark (Diane) Mullet of Longmont, Colo., her granddaughters, and her extended family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 9, at 11 am at St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg. Interment will be in the South Lawn Cemetery at Beach City. Friends can call at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover is handling the arrangements.
