Ruth E. (Parrish) Porter, 86, of Dover passed away peacefully Sunday morning, April 1, 2012 in Union Hospital at Dover.
Ruth was born January 26, 1926 in Gnadenhutten, the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha (Grott) Parrish. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Marsha (Prosser) Porter, a sister, Thelma Blickensderfer, an infant sister, and two brothers, Robert and Glenn Parrish.
Ruth was an Avon Representative in the area for several years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia and a former Sunday schoolteacher. She was also a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Ruth will be sadly missed by her husband Paul E. Porter with whom she recently celebrated her 62nd wedding anniversary on Feb. 19; a son Alan (Kathy) Porter of Monroeville, Pa., five grandchildren, Michell (Mark) Hoover and Jennifer (Eric) Neitz both of Canal Fulton, Shannon Porter of Jackson Township, Christopher (Abby)Porter of Uniontown, and Jodi Hoffman of Texas; six great grandchildren, Megan, Nicholas, Tyler, Payten, Maddex, and Kelsey; and a sister, Helen Shumaker of Canal Fulton.
A funeral celebrating Ruth's life will be held Thursday, April 5. 2012 at 10:30am in the First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia with Pastor Jacquelyn Pinkowski and Chaplain Chad Durfee officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday from 5-8pm and Thursday at the church from 9:30-10:30am.
