Ruth Holston Gregory (a.k.a. Ella Ruth Gregory), 85, of Dover, died Friday, Mar. 28, 2003.
Born Jan. 28, 1918, in Max Meadows, VA, she was a daughter of the late Christopher Howe and Ethel Edith Holston. She married William D. Gregory in 1935. The couple resided in Alexandria, VA, for twenty-one years, during which time Ruth was employed as an interior decorator.
She was a member of St. Andrew�(TM)s United Methodist Church, Alexandria, where she was a Sunday school teacher of two and three-year-olds, and was very active member of the United Methodist Women. Ruth later transferred her membership to Cameron United Methodist Church, Alexandria.
In 1980, following their retirement, Ruth and Bill moved to Dover. She became a member of the First United Methodist Church and its U.M.W. Ruth was also a member of A.A.R.P., and active in Faith in Action and other volunteer activities.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean (Woodrow) Gunnoe of Dover, and Jeanette (George) Colby of Alexandria; seven grandchildren, Woodrow (Kathe) Gunnoe of California, Deborah Gunnoe of Dover, Teri Gunnoe and Sherri Johnson, both of New Philadelphia, George (Mary) Colby of Hartford, CT, Anthony (Tina) Colby of Manassas, VA, and Nancy Sales of Woodbridge, VA; twelve great-grandchildren, Shane, Amber and Troy Gunnoe, Tommy and Jackie Johnson of Dover, Mandi Littlepage and Jimmy Banning of Alexandria, William Colby of Hartford, Bethany La Prad, Brandon Curry, Tony and Rose Colby of Manassas; a sister, Beveridge Hall of Pulaski, VA; two brothers, Rayo Holston of Wax Haw, NC, and Wallace (Peggy) Holston of Asheboro, NC; a sister-in-law, Lillie Trail of Pulaski.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of forty-six years, Bill, in September of 1981; a sister, Mildred Wheatley; and a brother, Paul Holston.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Mar. 31, 2003, at 11 a.m., in the First United Methodist Church, with Revs. Jan Coffman and Jim Scott officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. There will be a reception in the church following the committal. Visitation will be Sunday, Mar. 30, 2-5 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover.
