Ruth L. Dickenson, 89, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and formerly of Dover passed away peacefully on Jan. 20, 1918., the daughter of Emma Whittaker Lance and John Andrew Lance. Her brothers and sisters included Red, Horace, Grace, Joe, and Ann. She graduated from Black Mountain High School in 1934 where she played basketball. Ruth went on to graduate from nursing school in South Carolina where she met and married Marion Smith. Together, they had three sons, Larry, and twins, Donald and Ronald. After Marions death, she later met and married Bob Miller, moved to Dover, Ohio where together they also raised Bobs sons, David and Jerry, and had a daughter, Pamela.
Ruth was loved by her many family members and friends in Hot Springs, Dover, North Carolina and South Carolina. She was known for her generosity, sense of humor, adventurous and fun spirit. She was an avid golfer, and loved to garden, read, and feed the birds. She founded the Mothers Club in support of her sons football and was also a baseball and band booster at Dover High School. She was also a Red Cross Volunteer.
Ruth is survived by her sons Larry (Susan) Smith, Donald (Shirley) Smith, David Miller, and daughter, Pamela Miller and daughter in law, Debby Miller. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and a sister.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Marion Smith, Robert Miller, and Warren Dickenson and sons, Jerry Miller and Ronald Smith.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, January 25, 2008 at 11am in the Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ of the Hills Methodist Church, Arkansas Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.
