Ruth Mennom, 99, of Dover died Sunday, June 9, 2013 in the Park Village Health Care Center.
Born July 21, 1913 in Columbia she was a daughter of the late Frank and Agnes Studer Kaiser. Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Mennom on February 18, 2001.
Ruth retired from the Garver Brothers store in Strasburg where she was known as the "Candy Lady", and at one time she and her husband were part owners of the store. She was an active member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church where she was the church organist for 46 years. She also taught Sunday school and belonged to the United Methodist Women. She and Harold loved camping and belonged to the Sally Buffalo Camp Grounds in Cadiz. When at the camp, she attended the Springdale Friends Church where she also played the organ for many years. In her spare time Ruth loved knitting, crocheting and doing volunteer work with the Salvation Army.
She is survived by many cousins and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 11:00 am in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Lynda Masters officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services on Thursday. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover is handling arrangements.
