Ruth Nadine Miller of Dover passed into the loving arms of our Lord on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017. She was born to Almeda and Roland Haueter on September 6, 1925. She graduated from Strasburg High School in 1943 and began working at Garver Brothers for 15 cents/hr. and then Reeves Offices on Iron Avenue in Dover.
Ruth met the love of her life, Jack Miller at the Spanish Ballroom on the square in downtown Dover. They were married July 12, 1946 and began their beautiful family with twin girls, Beatrice and Linda, daughter Janie and son John.
Ruth retired from Union Hospital following 25 years of service in the business office. She was always an active member of Dover First United Methodist Church and its Mary Hannah Circle where she enjoyed fellowship with all of her wonderful friends including treasured “lunch bunch” lunches. She was the eldest living member of the church (68 years) and was chosen Woman of the Year in 2001.
Upon their retirement, Ruth and Jack volunteered as Mobile Meals drivers for many years. In retirement they were especially involved in the lives of their 9 grandchildren. Ruth shared her love for flowers and gardening with all who cared. Ruth’s daughter Janie (Jack Hatcher) and brother Paul (Jen) Haueter of Navarre remain Ruth’s surviving immediate family.
She was preceded in death by husband Jack with whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage. Also preceding her were her twin daughters, Beatrice Matheson and Linda King and son, John.
Nine loving grandchildren are Kristin Hatcher Scott, Jace Hatcher (life long pen pal), Sarah Matheson Mihalecz, Chris Matheson, Patrick Matheson, Cassidy King, Courtney King Ebarb, Mike Miller and Matt Miller. Additionally there are 8 great grandchildren and another one and day now.
Ruth had been a resident of Northwood Village assisted living of Dover where she met many wonderful friends and staff and recently she was a resident of Park Village in Dover where, once again, she made many friends and received wonderful care.
