Ruth Smitley

Ruth Smitley, 84, of Dover passed away Sunday, January 25, 2004 in the New Dawn Health Care Center.

Her love of God and passion for children moved her to be a child evangelism leader for 17 years.

Born October 11, 1919 at Dover, she was the daughter of the late Ralph & Clara McBride Lawrence.

Ruth was an active member of the Dover Alliance Church where she had been involved with: the Women�(TM)s Missionary Prayer Fellowship, senior groups and outings, teaching Sunday school and Bible school and assisting in the nursery.

She had many talents and interests that ranged from gardening and reading to having a great knack for sewing.

A devoted wife, Ruth will be missed by her husband of 63 years, Herman W. Smitley, who survives.

Other survivors include: four children; Art (Jane) Smitley of Dover, Sandy (Manuel) Galvan of Marana, AZ, Don (Pat) Espenschied of Tunkhannock, PA and Dave Smitley of Dover, thirteen grandchildren; Frank (Betty) Roth, Jeff (Kirsten) Smitley, Ted Roth, Teresa (Rick) Carter, Marlene (Larry) Schupbach, Melissa Smitley, Danielle Smitley, Jessica Smitley, DJ (Donica) Smitley, Matt Smitley, Julie (Scott) Miller, Joe Russell, Tom (Maria) Russell, twenty great grandchildren and two sisters; Gail (Paul) Shibler and Peggy Baker.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by: a grandson, one great granddaughter, three sisters and a brother.

A service celebrating Ruth�(TM)s life will be held Wednesday, January 28, at 11:00 a.m. in the Dover Alliance Church with Rev. Richard Rose officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.
