Sally J. DeSeyn, age 84, of Atwood Lake, Mineral City, died Sunday, September 7, 2014, in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.
Born June 1, 1930, in Douglaston, Long Island, New York, she was the daughter of the late Raymond W. and Sarah J. (Metcalfe) Newberry. Sally graduated from Bayside High School at Douglaston, and Keuka College at Keuka Park, New York, where she majored in nursing. In 1952, she married Robert L. DeSeyn. The couple reared three children and shared fifty-five years of marriage prior to Robert's passing in 2007. Sally and Robert moved to Tuscarawas County in 1971, where Sally was employed by Union Hospital, Tuscarawas County Health Dept., Tuscarawas Valley Schools and Kent State University, Tuscarawas Campus. Additionally, Sally worked with Robert in his life insurance business.
Sally was an active member of the New Cumberland United Methodist Church. She volunteered her time to many community organizations over the years, including the Tuscarawas County Public Library, Mineral City Nicole Donant Library and Schoenbrunn Village.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Tom) Clayson of Casper, Wyoming; her two sons, Robert L. (Debra) DeSeyn, Jr. of Sugarcreek, and Douglas R. (Rosemary) DeSeyn of Thermopolis, Wyoming; her five grandchildren, Bobby and Bailey DeSeyn, Jessie Watson, Kyle Clayson and Sarah Peterson; her great-grandson, Vander Harris; and her sister-in-law, Anna K. Newberry of Hudson, New York.
Besides her parents, and her husband, Robert, Sally was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond R. Newberry; and her two sisters-in-law, Donna E. and Mary A. DeSeyn.
In keeping with Sally's wishes, she will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held Saturday, September 13, at 11 a.m. in the New Cumberland United Methodist Church; Pastor Ted Knapp will officiate. Immediately following the ceremony, there will a luncheon in the church. Her cremated remains will be buried later, with Robert, in Canandaigua, New York.
