Samuel L. Loibl, 65, of New Philadelphia, Ohio died Tuesday morning, August 6, 2013 in his home following an extended illness.
Sam was a retired employee of Fleming Foods in Navarre and had previously worked for Associated Grocers in Dennison.
Born February 16, 1948 in Dover, Ohio, he was the son of the late John and Alma (Feutz) Loibl. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jory Loibl.
Sam was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover and the St. Joseph Seniors group. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps having completed three tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, Life Member of the D.A.V., and member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He was an avid supporter of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation.
Sam enjoyed working on his small block Chevy powered Jeep Wrangler and enjoyed fishing and camping with his boys. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye and he loved spending time with them. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan.
He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife of 43 years, Patricia (Maurer) Loibl with whom he married on May 2, 1970; three sons, James (Irene) Swisher of Prattville, Alabama, Kevin (Lisa) Swisher of New Philadelphia and Brian (Jackie) Loibl of Bolivar; four grandchildren, Alyssa, Makaila, Riley and Lucas; five brothers, Andrew (Judy) Loibl of Dover, John (Jeanette) Loibl of Dover, Daniel (Linda) Loibl of Dover, David Loibl of Apex, North Carolina and Jim Loibl of Dover; and a sister, Ann Marie (Fred) Pope of Dundee.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, August 9, 2013 beginning at 10:30am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside honors. A reception will follow in the St. Joseph Family Life Center. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover on Thursday from 1-3 & 6-8 pm with Christian Wake services at 7:45pm. The Marine Corps League will also honor him Thursday evening. Because of Sam's love and devotion to the Marine Corps, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, 3800 Fetter Park Drive Suite 104, Dumfries, Virginia 22025 to support the Marine Corps Museum.
