Sandra J. Cooley

Sandra J. Cooley, 76, of Dover, a dedicated and caring individual known for selflessness and love for others, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital surrounded by her family. Born on June 21, 1947, in Medina, she was a daughter of the late Hobert and Marjean Smith Johnson.

Having graduated from Dover High School in 1965, Sandra went on to pursue her passion for nursing at the University of Michigan. In 1969, she proudly obtained her bachelor's degree in nursing, laying the foundation for a remarkable career dedicated to the well-being of others. Sandra's devotion and commitment to the field of healthcare spanned over three decades at Union Hospital, where she served as a Registered Nurse. Through her thirty years of service, Sandra tirelessly cared for countless patients with warmth and expertise. Her genuine empathy and compassionate nature made her an invaluable presence within the hospital walls. Sandra found solace and joy within her community. As an active member of the Dover First United Methodist Church, she deeply cherished her involvement in the bell choir. Her melodious tones resonated through the sanctuary during countless worship services. Additionally, Sandra was a valued member of the Dover Literary Club. Her love for reading allowed her to explore worlds beyond her own while fostering connections with fellow book enthusiasts.

Family was at the heart of Sandra's life. She shared fifty-four years of marriage with her husband Daniel Cooley after tying the knot on June 14, 1969.  She is also survived by her children, Ben (Heather) Cooley of Dover, Adam (Lisa) Cooley of Nevada, Gretchen (Travis) McClelland of Dover; sister, Beverly (Vince) Link of Defiance; and her grandchildren, Ben Cooley, Noah and Zoe McClelland.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 9th starting at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Rev. David St. Aubin officiating.   The family will be greeting friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
