Sandra S. Watkins, 63, a longtime resident of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, October 30, 2005 in Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Born December 18, 1941 at Cleveland, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Eleanor Johnson Burmich.
Sandy had a special place in her heart for children. Her long career as a Registered Nurse, both at Massillon Community Hospital and Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, was focused primarily in Obstetrics. That same gentle touch translated into a nurturing home environment while raising her daughter, and years later, by allowing her precious granddaughters to become a focal point in her life.
She was a graduate of the former Tuscarawas High School and went on to graduate in 1962 from the Massillon Community Hospital School of Nursing. After moving to Columbus, she became a member of the Hilliard United Methodist Church, but always thought fondly of her home church, the Sharon Moravian Church in Tuscarawas.
In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Watkins, who died on October 20, 1988.
Surviving are: her daughter, Melissa (Greg) Henderson of Columbus; her twin, six-year-old granddaughters, Emily & Eryn Henderson; a brother, Stanley “Fred” (Pam) Burmich of California; her sister-in-law whom she was so fond of, Joyce Watkins of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Michael Foran will officiate a memorial service that celebrates Sandy(TM)s life on Thursday, at 1:00p.m. in the Sharon Moravian Church. Interment will be in Dover Burial Park. Family and friends will be received following the burial at a reception held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
Those unable to attend or wishing to share a fond memory may sign the online register book for Sandy by visiting the “obituaries” link on the funeral home(TM)s website.
In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Sandy(TM)s giving spirit towards children, the family suggests that memorial gifts be given to St. Jude Children(TM)s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia is handling the arrangements.
