Scott E. Steitz, 66, of Dover passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 8, 2023.
Scott was born on April 9, 1956 in Dover to the late John E. “Jerry” and E. Virginia “Ginny” Steitz. Scott was one of the first to attend Starlight School and Workshop, founded by Ruth Carlson. He loved what he knew as “workshop” – working at Starlight Enterprises in New Philadelphia.
Scott was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover and he attended the Good Shepherd Class at the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia. In his spare time, Scott liked to bowl with the Special Olympics, swim and play basketball. He was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and had a closet full of prized football jerseys. Scott loved watching the Dover Band in parades and riding the carousel at Tuscora Park, and he always saluted the American flag.
Scott was known as a kind, loving and gentle person. He will be missed by his family, which includes his siblings, Sandra (David) Mizer of Dover, Steven Steitz of Mesquite, Nevada, Sally (Gerald) Becker of Beavercreek Township, Ohio; four nieces and nephews; nine great nieces and nephews; and his extended family at Bradford Homes, including Robert and Levi. The family would like to thank the loving staff at Bradford Homes for their dedicated care for Scott, and the staff at Starlight Enterprises.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 13th starting at 11:00 am at the Dover Burial Park with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. The family will be greeting friends in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover from 10:00 am until 10:45 am.
Memorial contributions may be made to Starlight Enterprises Inc., at PO Box 1054 New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
