Sherrell E. Burgess

Sherrell E. Burgess, 71, of 419 E. 7th St., Dover, died Friday, July 30, 1999, in Union Hospital.

He retired in 1991 from Greer Steel at Dover, where he had worked as a supervisor, after 29 years of service.

Born May 3, 1928 at Dale, WV, he was a son of the late Bruce D. & Amy D. Sheets Burgess.  

He was a member of the Church of Christ at Gnadenhutten.  He was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed watching all sports.  He was a member of the Tuscarawas Lodge No. 59 F & A.M. at Dover.

He is survived by his wife Dessie (Cross) Burgess with whom he would have celebrated 45 years of marriage on August 7.  

Other survivors include: a daughter, Debbie Martin of Dover, son James and Tammie Burgess of Dover, granchildren, Chris, Ashley & Kevin Martin, Derek, Josh & Tara Burgess, six brothers and sisters, Harold 'Jim' & Jackie Burgess of West Union WV, Hobert Burgess of TN, Alice Koch of Richmond, Ohio, Maxine & James Waldo of Dover, Bernadine 'Dean' & Ralph Leggett of WV, Emmalou & Robert Numbers of Dover.

In addition to his parents, Sherrell was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Bill, Bernard & Max.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 2, at 11:00am in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover with Rev. Jim Gillaspie officiating.  Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover.  Friends may call in the funeral home on Sunday from 1-4 pm.
