Shirley C. Walters, 83, of Dover, and a long-time Strasburg resident, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 26, 2021.
Shirley was born on September 23, 1938 in Baltic and was a daughter of the late Vernon and Elsie Smith Hall. She was also preceded in death by her son, Brian J. Walters on July 20, 2021.
Shirley will be remembered by generations of Strasburg elementary children for her being the school secretary. Most notably, hearing her voice during the morning announcements, and at the end of school, letting you know which bus has arrived to take you home, “Bus number one, first trip.” She was also well known for sending greeting cards in the mail and for visiting shut-ins at the nursing home. Shirley was also a life member of Strasburg United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jon R. Walters whom she married on June 25, 1961; daughter, Holly Walters, and her husband, Stephen LeClaire of Texas; brother, Bob (Rosemary) Hall of Dover; nephews, Matt, Jason, Bob Hall and their families.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 2nd starting at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at 140 South Bodmer Ave., Strasburg with Pastor Bruce Hartley officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. The family will be greeting friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5-7 pm, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
