Shirley A. Leighley

Shirley A. Leighley, age 72, of Strasburg, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in Brewster Parke Senior Living Community, Brewster, with her loving family by her side.

Born May 6, 1952, in Cambridge, Shirley was the daughter of the late Melvin and Helen (Carman) Casterline. At a young age, Shirley moved with her family to Dover, where she grew up and graduated from Dover High School. Shirley worked in the banking industry much of her life, first at Citizens Bank in Strasburg and then at Strasburg Savings Bank. Later on, she volunteered at Dover’s Reeves Victorian Home and Carriage House Museum.

Shirley was a member of the Gathering Place Community Church in Brewster. She enjoyed gardening both at home and at the museum, and creating floral arrangements. She also liked to read, and history was one of her favorite topics, especially that of the Victorian era. Shirley very much enjoyed listening to music as well.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Donald E. Leighley, whom she married on February 2, 1974; her children, Michelle (Mike) Green of Lexington, South Carolina, Nathan Leighley of Canton, and David Leighley of Dover; her grandchildren, Mitchell Troyer, Tyson Hilton and Blake Leighley; her sisters, Kay Casterline and Cynthia (Terry) Zantene; her brother, Ray (Jacqueline) Casterline; her brother-in-law, Ron Miller; and her nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Miller and her brother, Gary Casterline.

Honoring Shirley’s wishes, she will be cremated. Friends are invited to call, pay their respects and visit with the family on Sunday, April 6, 3 - 5 p.m., at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover.
