Sister Anella Aeling

April 29, 1920 — February 1, 2001

Sister Annella Aeling, 80, died on Thursday, February 1 in the infirmary of
the Sisters of Divine Providence in Allison Park, Pennsylvania, following a
long battle with cancer.

On April 29, 1920 in Dover, Gladys Louise was the first born child of the
Late Charles and Anna Prince Aeling. She attended St. Joseph's grade and
high school until she entered the Sisters of Divine Providence Community on
Dec. 6, 1936. She earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education from
Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

For thirty-five years, Sister Annella taught chemistry and physics at ten
different parochial schools in the greater Pittsburgh area. In addition, she
taught for ten years at the missions in Arecibo and Utauado, Puerto Rico.
After her retirement from teaching she continued to support the missions
through sales of the beautiful baby sweater sets, blankets and afghans which
she crocheted.

In addition to her parents, Sr. Annella was preceded in death by a sister,
Gertrude Sponaugle and a brother, Howard Aeling, and infant siblings James
and Marilyn. She is survived by brothers and their spouses, Edward and
Dorothy Aeling of Escondido, California, Thomas and Joan Aeling of Lemon
Grove, California, David and Connie Aeling of Columbus, Richard and Treva
Aeling of Canton, sister-in-law Eileen Aeling of Dover and sisters Marjorie
Preece of Massillon, Sr. Mary Carol Aeling, CDP, of Allison Park, Pa.,
Catherine and Everett Bowman and Charlene and James Herzig of Dover. In
addition she is survived by fourteen nephews, eight nieces and thirty-three
great nephews and nieces.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Toland Herzig Funeral Home
in Dover. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St.
Joseph's Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Dover.
