Stanley E. Winkler, 69, of Beach City and formerly of Strasburg died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 in the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia following an extended illness.
Stan retired in 2000 following 36 years of service from the Timken Company in Canton. He had also been previously employed by H&R Block for 13 years.
Born August 20, 1944 in Dover, Ohio, he was the son of the late Nicholas Winkler and Katherine (Leyman) Winkler-Wade. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Stanley Christopher; father and mother in law, Carl "Popeye" and Vivian Snyder; nephew Troy Harper and niece Samantha White.
Stan was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Strasburg and the Strasburg Lions Club where he held the office of Lion Tamer. He was also a member of the Tusco Traveler's Club. He was a former coach of the Chicken Manor Minor League baseball team. He enjoyed reading and playing cards. He loved playing euchre with his friends in the Dover Moose Euchre club. Stan graduated in 1962 from Navarre High School.
He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife of nearly 50 years, Sandra (Snyder) Winkler with whom he was married on March 19; a daughter, Libby Winkler (Robert Prah) of Cleveland; three grandsons, Ian David, Jacob Christopher and Zachary Martin Prah all of Cleveland; a brother, Robert (Janice) Winkler of Hebron, Ohio; a sister, Janice Schilling and companion, Jimmy Anderson of Baltic; sisters in law, Vivian Sue (Jerry) White and Carol Rouse and companion Larry Nicsinger both of Strasburg; a brother in law Dennis (Karen) Snyder of Akron along with several nieces and nephews.
Please join us in a birthday celebration of the life of Stan Winkler on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 beginning at 11:00am in the First Lutheran Church in Strasburg with Pastor Karen Biggerstaff officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 4-7pm and Wednesday from 10 until 11am.
